The summer of 2007 was a very memorable time.It was the year we started the Captains Cup Golf Challenge .Starting in May,We met every Thursday here, starting between 4:30 pm and 6:00 pm,each week we would play golf, afterwards enjoying hot dogs, and beer. The Convenor Mark Beattie did an excellent job of getting competitors to participate, providing excellent challenges each week as we made our way through the season, heading towards the cup challenge, which took place here at domecountry, Oct 20th at noon.
The cup itself was a group effort combining white pine and hard maple to provide a perfect perch for the cup ,a sterling silver masterpiece that I had here at the bar to hold treats for visitors and friends..It held the victory champagne that we all drank up!!
Cheers!
The competition was a lot of fun and everyone enjoyed the fantastic comradery and beautiful fall weather. The competition was to go ahead rain or shine as the spirit of competition ran high at the seasons end to a great year of golf! The event was complete with some great food ..after golfing 18 competitive holes we dined on fillet of beef with potato salad, coleslaw and baked acorn squash, enjoyed by all!
We have over the season collected some nice videos of all the participants on video..the files are wmv files of medium compression so both dial up and highspeed users can enjoy the show!
Those of you who are interested in participating next year must be invited by one of this years participants.. In order to qualify to play in the Captains Cup, one must play at least two times prior to the cup challenge to qualify. The season starts the thursday before the May 24 holiday long week-end. This year that will be Thursday,May 22,2008
Tom, Tommy Gun, Davenport is one lucky guy..recently during our VIP Thursday night golf match, he hit a hole in one on the 272 yard, hole number ten. We watched in amazement as it disappeared before our very eyes from his tee shot..
Tradition has it that golfers making a hole in one shot buy the beer, which he cheerfully did to celebrate this amazing piece of history. Further, the hole is now known as the Tommy Gun Hole. Convenor Mark beattie treated Tom, and myself,to lunch the following day at the Innisbrook golf and country club..Tom will receive a special tag for his golf bag arranged by Innisbrooks General manager Craig Memberry! Congratulations Tommy!
